Hochkar - Senonerpark

In winter the Hochkar at 1808m above sea level (5931 ft) offers not only masses of snow, 19 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes and therefore top-class snow pleasure, but also a professional snowpark, which has been in existence for 4 years by now. The Senonerpark Hochkar is known as one of the best parks in the eastern part of the Alps due to constant upgrades and daily shaping. Snowboarders and freeskiers can experience the real realms of freestyle in both park and backcountry!

Over the years the setup has been amplified with every season by some high-quality rails and boxes. Hence the park could find its position among the top freestyle locations of the Alps. QParks guarantees that the conception of the setup fulfils the highest safety standards, as well as a balanced relationship between features for beginners and advanced riders. The pro kicker of 14 meter length provides the ideal challenge for all experts. An alternative is the medium kickerline, consisting of two tables of 7 and 8 meters. The Senonerpark provides enough training possibilities, but there is even more to satisfy also the beginners: 3 small kickers, a broad butterbox, a mini elephant and rainbow box are only a few obstacles available in the snowpark. Additional jib elements like picnic tables or a wallride complete the diverse setup offer. By frequent shaping maintenance and a total number of ten annual quality-checks, run by parkdesigner Mike Aflenzer, the Senonerpark Hochkar is in a superior condition every day. To improve the quality of the park to even higher levels in 2011/2012, the crew some special features and new obstacles are on the plan.

In the season 2009/10 a media obstacle has been installed in form of a huge wooden “H” at the Leckerplan. The “Special H” offered not only different jib variations but also functioned as scenery for some breathtaking shots from the Hochkar. Another outstanding feature of the resort is the variety of powder opportunities. Backcountry-freaks who prefer more fastidious terrain can select between open powderfields or steep lines, which are visible from the road up the Hochkar. Although the Hochkar cannot really compete with the larger freeride resorts in the western parts of the Alps, it is more than worth a visit and a guarantee for enriching times, also for powder-cracks.

There is no winter without some dashing events at the Hochkar! A class by itself is the legendary Hochkar Open which has become a benchmark in the Austrian contest scene over the years. Florian Galler took the victory last year and doubtless he wants to defend his title in 2011. Further special shootings at the bigger obstacles will be luring various film crews to the park. Snow reliability, clean slopes, diversified obstacles and a sworn in freestyle community guarantee unique freestyle pleasure!

Local Tipp: Felix Prankl

„The Senonerpark is situated in the center of the resort and has its own park-lift in order to make an infinite number of runs possible within a day. If there’s fat powder you’ll find sick treeruns across the region making each day a unique, unforgettable experience”.
